Registration for November 2021 Conference

This fall will mark the 75th anniversary of The Wisconsin Surgical Society, A Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. We are pleased to announce our plans to celebrate with an in-person meeting at The American Club in Kohler, WI on Friday-Saturday November 5-6, 2021. Please plan to attend!

We are pleased to announce that Dr Julie Freischlag will be joining us as the invited Beaumont speaker! As the incoming president of the American College of Surgeons, she will also give an update on activities of the ACS. We know many of you are personally and professionally familiar with Dr Freischlag and her illustrious career and are thrilled that she will be celebrating WSS’s 75th anniversary with us.

New this year, we are also introducing Surgical Jeopardy!! We invite Wisconsin’s four residency programs to each send a team to compete (one junior resident, one senior resident) for the honor of being the first winners of our (hopefully) inaugural Jeopardy competition.

The program agenda will be released in September and will include a session entitled, “Surgery in Wisconsin – Past, present, and future,” which will include recorded interviews with past presidents of WSS, a historical look at surgery in Wisconsin from a member of the WI Surgery Travel Club (celebrating their 100th year!), updates from members of the Surgical Collaborative of Wisconsin, and insights from Wisconsin’s Residency Program Directors on training the next generation of WI surgeons.

In addition, we are planning a session entitled, Wisconsin surgeons providing culturally appropriate care,” featuring speakers discussing their work with the Plain community, an inner-city community impacted by trauma, and a Native American community.

Our annual meeting is a great opportunity to discuss relevant issues pertaining to the clinical practice of surgery in a way that allows our membership to make and reinforce connections with colleagues from across our state. Please encourage your colleagues and trainees, especially those who are new to Wisconsin, to submit an abstract and/or attend. We look forward to celebrating the 75th anniversary of WSS with all of you in November!

Sincerely,
Elise Lawson, on behalf of the WSS Program Committee: Barbara Boyer (President-elect), Brian Lewis (President), Jessica Wernberg, Brandon Grover, Tim Ridolfi, and Jill Ties.

We are finalizing the agenda for an engaging, educational, and fun event and, as in previous years, we hope to have participation from surgeons across the state.

This is the second call for abstracts for the annual meeting. As in previous years, we plan to be broadly inclusive when selecting abstracts for presentation. As such, each person may only present one abstract at this meeting. You are welcome to submit more than one abstract, but only the higher scored abstract will be selected for presentation. You may be a co-author or senior author on an unlimited number of abstracts. You are welcome to submit abstracts that have been previously submitted or presented in other conferences. Awards will be given for the highest rated abstracts and presentations.
